Admin Question:

There is something several of you have asked for about the comment list on the right here and I cannot remember what it is although I have asked twice that it be changed. Refresh my memory (a longer list?) and we’ll get it done, along with some other glitches. Actually, tell me what you need done to improve your experience on the blog and we’ll get it done.

  1. There used to be a place where it showed the newest, let’s say ten or so, comments on the blog. It was nice, especially in the big discussions because you could click on them and it would take you to the comment, rather than scrolling through the whole discussion to find the new stuff.

    1. This was the one I myself last mentioned. Since the makeover, the Recent Comments was cut back to only 5 from 10. My own opinion was that in big discussion days, even more than 10 would have been more helpful.

  2. A month or two ago, Kate Elliott was writing on her Patreon account about how difficult it was to make edits at the proof stage. I wanted to share your experience about adding a dog to a story at the proof stage, but there was no easy way for me to find that post.

    1. July 13. As I have mentioned here at least twice, the syntax for a Google search for this kind of problem is:
      dog cover site:arghink.com

      1. On rereading, that may have sounded abrupt; sorry! I know that some people vastly prefer menus to command lines. If that search would be too much work to automate on the Arghink site, perhaps somewhere a reminder could be added here on how to do that kind of search on Google?

  3. I would still love to get an email notification every time that a post I’ve ever made or have commented on this commented on in return so that I don’t have to scroll to discover if dialogue has happened.

  4. The most recent posts used to be listed at the side (now there is just an option for the month). I usually am looking for the last 3-4 posts, and it would be great if you could see the titles. Thanks!

    1. Some of these requests evidently pertain only to the non-phone version (if there’s a good name for that I’m blanking on it), which these days I almost never use (none of Deborah’s request sounds familiar), so it might be useful to specify which. All of my own comments have been to the version on my Android phone and Android tablet.

  5. More recent comments. (Love the arrow that brings you to the top of the page.)

And the email or alert when someone has responded to a comment I’ve made. I just don’t get back to my comment that often.

  6. I totally understand why the next and previous buttons are at the end of the comments, but I personally preferred them under the post before the comments started. If it’s able to be changed, great, but if not, I will adapt.

    1. Yes, I agree, Kelly. If I want to jump straight to the previous post, it’s a nuisance having to scroll right to the bottom of the comments to find it. It was easier when it was immediately under the post.

  7. I’ve given up trying to comment here (not that I do it very often). They just seem to disappear into the ether. Perhaps a judgment on my comments?
