Thing to feel good about: The weather is fabulous, really wonderful.
Admin note: My laptop crashed, have no idea why, Mollie is posting this for me. I am fine, no worries. The laptop? Uh . . .
What good thing happened for you this week?

We finally got some rain, which is a real blessing as we’re in a drought condition.
As I recall, that was a fairly new laptop. Sorry to hear of the trouble and I hope it’s easily fixable.
I got to go on a historic home tour and saw some really beautiful leaded glass.
Oh no! I hope you didn’t lose anything important .
I got wonderful birthday cards from DH and DD (cards are not DS thing). I had a lovely brunch with a good friend who is moving to CA because her only child is having a baby there. I got all my annuals in the ground ( and promptly bought more).
I didn’t have to see annoying house guest all weekend.
I had a nice dinner Friday with friends and their daughters and partners.
I went to a board game yard sale, I found many more things I wanted than I could buy. I am limited by space and people to play with.
I have gotten most of my sewing room put together and actually sewed some blocks together. This is my happy space.
Good in writing this week: 9 chapters of a new contemporary novelette + 1 chapter of the GeoIV project (may make it to 2 by the end of today).
Good in general: sibling & her wife both recovering well from mild cases of Covid, parents still functional, we all had a nice dinner tonight featuring my signature piggy pot roast.
I could smell that piggy pot roast from here. So tantalizing…
I got some writing done. I reorganized the timeline and it’s working much better.
And my family is healthy after several weeks of passing colds back and forth.
This week I’m going to fly to Ohio to see my parents. When I come back it’ll be only a few days until my baby graduates from high school. All very exciting!
Sorry about the tech crash!
I met some new neighbors on my second walk in my new place today. Kali went with me when I went back to get her. There had been 5 people with 5 dogs, sitting on the green, and by the time I got back there with Kali, there were three. One woman had also lived in Tucson, so we had that in common. Another woman has lived here since the townhomes were built. They were all very nice. When we left, Kali towed me all the way home! I’m glad she knew the way home, because she likes to sneak out, and get loose from her harness, too.
Yesterday, my son, DIL and granddaughter, all went with me to IKEA, where we had lunch and found wonderful things. I’m waiting for them to deliver the sofa I ordered. The delivery window was from 8 to 20. I assume that meant from 8am to 8pm. The person who helped me said they would call when they were on their way, but I have unfamiliar numbers blocked on my phone. It’s now 6:30. Sigh.
My son came over and installed some things that were challenging me: a shower curtain rod, two new TP holders, and some drapes that are very long and have those large grommets that go on a rod. He got those up for me. He also took the baseboards off so they can install the flooring, and brought the flooring I bought in from the garage so it can “acclimate” to the indoor temperature.
I also potted the plants and succulents I bought at IKEA. I realized that the skylight in the kitchen makes the top of the fridge a good place for houseplants to grow, where the cats can’t get to them. I hope the one up there will thrive. I’m very good at killing houseplants.
It will be in the mid-60’s tomorrow morning! I am trying to get up earlier and walk, and that will make it livable. I love the desert, but we are getting into the months that can be a trial.
You might need to unblock when you are waiting for deliveries as they may assume you are not home
And not come.
Patrick, I finally called them and found they had “pushed back” my delivery to Wednesday. It would have been nice to know that.
Can you unblock your phone until deliveries are done?
Or they tried to call you to inform you of a delay and you’ve been sitting around in vain.
Got 2 new rugs that I really like. Only downside – have to keep them clean & unstained.
Getting started on an effort to redo flower beds & other landscaping.
Re-watching Rosemary & Thyme. Haven’t watched it for years so I am enjoying it almost like new.
It’s hot here. I’m still planting flowers and vegetables and herbs
I got everything done that I needed to do and all the meetings I attended went smoothly.
My big happy was getting more sleep!
I had a very nice visit with my sisters in KY. I drove down ( not fun, 12 hours, including gas, bathroom, and food stops) with some horrendous rush hour traffic. I made it there safely and enjoyed a couple of days with my sisters, and then drove back home to central NY today. The drive was much better this time with nice weather, and way less traffic. It took me just over 11 hours for the return trip. I may have to reconsider driving there in the future; it can be very stressful.
Had the windows cleaned for the first time in far too long, then cleaned the insides. The world looks sparkling. Went plant shopping and was extravagant. Had some long phone calls with friends.
I have planted the garden!
The grandson who lived with us for his sophomore year while his parents were fighting their personal demons graduated from high school.
I am so proud of that kid.
How wonderful! And how lovely of you to give him that safe space.
I hope you are able to recover your laptop, Jenny.
I too was able to get some gardening done. Not as much as I would’ve liked ans arthritis seems to be a thing now and my hands just couldn’t do more. Actually, my hips were also giving out.
Probably the happiest thing though is this week I am at a quilting retreat until Thursday! Hoping to finish the border of my paper-pieced quilt top. I also have three other projects to sew as well as the group project and I brought supplies to plan out quilting designs for tops I have done. We’ll see how far I get.
I’m envious! My group’s retreat is next weekend, but I can’t go. My handbell group is playing on Sunday, which takes a huge chunk out of the weekend. Oh well, I’ll have to quilt at home!
My happy for this week – DH and I are planning a vacation! It is scheduled for July, but we’ve gotten the flights and accommodations booked and paid for. So, now I just need to figure out what I need to bring! It’s a group thing at a resort that my sisters have talked us into – so the real joy is being able to hang out with them in a place that doesn’t require any of us to be a hostess!
Where do you plan to go on vacation? Interested parties wish to know.
Meeting a friend for lunch today so that’s a good thing. And making progress on the new story.
Jenny, I hope your laptop troubles are short-lived!
Saturday night, my DH and two DD went out to dinner at an old favorite restaurant. It was as delicious as always.
I got my bike back! It was in the shop for a month. To celebrate I went for a ride yesterday, the weather was glorious. Then had brunch with my family at our favorite biscuit place.
I worked on the flower farm – first week back this season. We dug nasty weeds out of peonies. I brought home some extra larkspur and planted them in
my garden. My tatsoi is up in my raised bed (similar to bok choi). I plant it every year but has never done well. Happy that it’s off to a good start this year.
I hosted my book club and made oat milk chocolate pudding for dessert. It was delicious and there were leftovers.
We found a teardrop trailer to buy this weekend (from a very nice woman who had three dogs, a cat, and many, many chickens to enjoy while we were there), and it’s getting dropped off on Wednesday. So I’m going to put some camping trips on the calendar. We’re calling it our “starter trailer” because it’s a bit smaller than ideal and is lacking some things we wanted, but it’s cute, doesn’t smell weird, and doesn’t appear to have any water damage. And we’ll have it now rather than spending the summer chasing sellers who flake out on us at the last minute, etc.
Writing is going well, so that’s another very good thing. I’m on track to have my current project ready to go to the developmental editor in a few weeks.
And it looks like my BFF from college is taking me up on my offer to have her visit with her kids this summer! We haven’t seen each other in person since her daughter was three-ish and her son was an infant, and now they’re in high school and middle school. My friend is freshly divorced, so I’m hoping the trip is a nice change of pace and scene for her and the kids. Already brainstorming what could be fun for them…
The work on the outside of my house is FINALLY done. I was about to commit contractor-icide on Friday, because I’d hit my limit for chaos and intermittent hammering. It’s been happening off and on since early April, and I was DONE with it. But it was their last gasp, and everything is done except for picking up some left-over materials and having the dumpster removed.
I thought I’d be able to get fully back into my usual writing/quilting/other routine this week, but it’s turning into a vegetable-garden week instead. The good news is that it means we should have a bunch of Sun Gold tomatoes and Lunchbox peppers later this summer! That’s worth a few more days of disrupted routine!
You are settling in nicely
I had a lumbar puncture and my memory problems and other symptoms cleared up, a good sign that all can be fixed!
Wow!
I went to Baltimore this weekend for my niece’s graduation and birthday combo. Even though we live an hour apart, I usually only see her at her Mom’s house on the other side of the country. It was nice to have the whole crew on this side. Three days of graduation, parties, and general family visiting. And we lucked out on weather!
It is finally warm and sunny here and I am so happy! Have been working on the deck looking at the river, so it doesn’t even feel like work. I hate to be that person whose mood is dictated by the weather but…
If theater Jennifer is reading this we are thinking of you and would love to know how it’s going.
Ditto. Please check in!!
Debbie, same here! I’ve been thinking of her and wondering how she’s doing.
Not a great week for me. My eldest brother, William “Willilump-lump” Jordan, 83, passed away last week. May 14. God rest his soul.
I’m so sorry to hear that!
Thank you.
Very sorry, Gary. Take care of yourself.
Thank you.
Sorry to hear that. As you say, God rest his soul.
Thank you.
I’m sorry.
Thank you.
So sorry for your loss Gary. Sending hugs
Thank you. Hugs always appreciated.
You have my sympathy, Gary.
Thank you.
So sorry for your loss.
Thank you.
I’m sorry. Judging by his nickname, it sounds like you were close growing up. May those memories be a comfort to you.
Thank you. We were close for a time. It is a comfort.
