This is a Good Book Thursday: Dungeon Crawler Carl

My friend, Cathy Maxwell, urged me to try a book called Dungeon Crawler Carl, and this last weekend was so nuts that I decided I needed something off the wall, which is Carl and his cat companion, Princess Donut.  Aliens have taken the Earth to strip mine it, killing most of the population except for those millions who manage to find the escape stairs that the aliens have left for them to descend to the semi-safely of the levels of a TV survival game beamed out to the galaxy where they will be attacked by multiforms of monsters as they descend, getting more rewards and powers as get closer to whatever is down there.  Fortunately one of the first skills Princess Donut gets is the ability to speak.  I’m on Book Three.  There are eight books.  I’m pretty sure this series is more relatable if you’ve played the video games it’s based on, but fortunately the author, Matt Dinnamen, has a very agile imagination, and by the third book, has built a community of players, some of which do not survive. (The cat lives, as does the baby pterodactyl she adopts, Mongo. The thing about baby pterodactyls is, they grow.) (At least so far, they live.)

So that’s my reading week.  What did you read?
