Our own Judy Johnson has a memoir out now, Cancer Songs: Psalms for Pilgrims on the Cancer Journey. Multiple cancer diagnoses gave Judy A. Johnson a new lens through which to read the Psalms. Meditating on verse within the Psalms in light of her experience led to these fifty short pieces intended to encourage others.

She writes: I am very proud of this book, which marinated for a long time. The five sections (fear, anger, sorrow, joy, and gratitude) are divided by original poems. The watercolors are my own. I self-published this memoir/meditation collection last October. I’ve been told the emotions also are applicable to other situations, such as grief. There are bonus pages at the end (and a photo of me after chemotherapy).
Nearly eighteen years after my first diagnosis, I am so very happy and grateful to be alive.

Wow. What an endeavor. You are incredible.
I have a friend going through chemotherapy – thank-you for writing this.
It’s not easy or pretty, but it kept me alive to write this for others. Prayers for your friend, Yuri.
Thank-you. Its going well so far but still a long way to go …
Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
I will be reading it soon.
My mother is going through this now at 91. Some people think she shouldn’t bother, but she’s been a trail blazer her entire life and says “why would I stop now?”
I’ll be grabbing this today. Thank you!!
I have a friend in her late 80s going through chemo, so it’s not uncommon. I’ll be praying for your mom. Thanks for purchasing the book–I hope it is a help to both of you.
One of the things that amazed and is heart breaking is how young most of the patients are. Mom is by far the oldest one there.
I am so looking forward to the book!
What a wonderful resource for people in the same shoes!
So proud! Kudos. (And we’re glad you’re still here.)
What a wonderful book for people also on that journey!
So kind of you to want to help others going through this brutal disease. Sending good fortune and strength to all on this journey.
Oh my goodness…that’s resilience and faith and art all rolled into one. It sounds like a beautiful meditation & resource.
