Keeping my two grandchildren entertained the last week after camp and before school starts.
Suit bag labels. I was just going to write down what was in each suit bag and fix it to it, but they artistic side of me poked its head out. Now, after buying new sparkly gel pens, templates, pencils, rulers etc I’ve just started them. Why go with plain when you can make something fancy yourself, put a bit of sparkle into my life lol
Fun! Way to make the mundane sparkly.
Got back from a trip to Chicago yesterday where in fact no one asked me to be a surprise speaker at the Democratic Convention. Dang. I had thoughts to offer to America. Sales meeting went well though.
Lol -You are too truthful to speak at an American political gathering.
It would be fun to watch, though.
Only because I would have been wearing my Kamala-esque suit and fabulous new shoes.
I would be gentle but thoughtful, I promise.
I’m really sorry they didn’t ask you. It would have been so much fun!
I just watched Michelle and Barack’s speeches, so wonderful to hear.
It would be a good idea to have an open microphone at the dnc, I would love to hear that!
Now that is an awesome idea.
Haha! You would have been great.
Me and Taylor Swift – passed us both by.
Still working on physical therapy for the still extremely painful and activity-limiting IT band syndrome. Fifth visit today. Do you know how many things require bending down? My work involves putting things down and picking them up all day long, and at home, weeding is months behind.
Ugh, I’ve had that—started in the middle of an 11 mile hike! The last 5 miles were utter misery.
Mine came on slowly, getting worse for months before my doctor sent me to a physical therapist for a diagnosis. (I had not gone to the doctor before that; not her fault.) It’s being just as slow to go away.
Hang in there; once you start making progress, PT tends to gain momentum.
Working on finishing Book 1 of my three-book story. Monday night I had a very helpful conversation with a writer-friend about what was missing at the end of the book, so now I’m reworking those final scenes.
I have written my presentation speech for the signature quilt. We are having a luncheon after church this Sunday – just the music people – and I’m on the agenda. I’m a reasonable public speaker – I taught high school for a number of years in my previous life – and I figure if I practice it a couple more times, I might make it through without tearing up. But, I think one of my props will be a box of tissues. Maybe placed at his table. 🙂
Other than that, I keep plugging away at my Bullfinch blanket. I’ll post a link to this week’s progress in a bit.
This week’s progress. Still plugging away. I should probably work in some of those ends and get them out of the way.
https://www.instagram.com/p/C-7vyYQxdfh/
The color change is very noticeable now. This big ball of yarn goes through several changes, ending up at a dark blue, which should be the border of the blanket.
Nnice!!
Each time I see this blanket, I like it more.
I’ve built frames for my raised beds that I still have to wrap in chicken wire (anti dog and cat device so that I can grow vegetables that are not fertilized with cat poop or buried dog bones).
Sounds an excellent idea.
I did that, and used some of those Uposts to anchor it
Good idea.
The bonuses are that they will be removable for working on the beds, and I can add plastic for a greenhouse or cold frame effect.
I am working on how to be a professional even though I am filled with rage. My sister published a small poetry and photo book with a small publishing house. It’s a zine, really, and set up a book signing with a local small bookstore the last time she visited in June. She mailed the store the books and the manager took exception to them and cancelled her event last night. He had some very uncomplimentary things to say.
I am going to pick up the books today, as she is in Philly and this event was her way of including my dad and local family and the manager wants to speak with me. I was supposed to show art with them as well and also pulled out last night. So now I need to go down on my lunch break and not yell, but also not walk away feeling like I let him bully us.
In better news, I already have another venue lined up, I think, with the lovely people who own the local tea shop. I just have to get through today.
WTF?
Good luck with that.
Thank you. Basic Napoleon syndrome, I think, with a dash of peter pan thrown in. But I can be the adult in the room. Today, my mantra is, “give me the strength to be kind.” Otherwise I may just kill him. I am feeling stabby…
Yup, the Chicago song “cell block tango” go through my head. He had it coming!
Oooh. That is a good one. I need some good t-strap heels.
Stab him. It’s worth it just to get the new T-strap heels.
I did ok, I think. He tried to mansplain to me why it was unsellable and I told him that I had read his emails, I understood his position, I disagreed and that I wasn’t interested in hearing anymore. Then I left. I wish I could have gotten a few more licks in, but realistically shutting him down is the best I could probably manage. Went to the tea shop, confirmed the event and bought myself an iced tea as a reward. Chill out blend with house made hibiscus and vanilla syrup. I wish I was better at confrontation, but I didn’t give ground so I feel ok.
I hate him.
Me too. I haven’t had that much sustained rage in a long time. I am all raged out now. At least I have stopped yelling at him in my head.
OMG ‘I am feeling stabby’ – love that… definitely going to keep that in my mental repertoire when dealing with very tiresome people who are attempting to thwart me😦.
On a serious note, what a jerk. Hoping the new venue provides an altogether more positive experience for the launch.
I don’t think I coined ‘stabby’. Something from the internet, most likely, but it does sound cute and fun and violent, doesn’t it?
And the owners of Tria Prima are lovely. Both former teachers, one of English and on for Special Needs. The English teacher wife also loves poetry, so it’s going to be a good fit. Thanks for the well wishes!
So sorry for your sister–and for you for having to fix this mess. Hope the event at the local tea shop is fabulous!
Thank you! I am feeling better now that it is sorted and we are working with lovely people.
Oh no! What is up with people? It’s so disappointing when someone can’t or won’t fulfill their obligations. I’m glad you were able to set up another venue. Good luck!
Thank you! It was so weird and unexpected. This has been in the works since June. She had the launch of the book in Denver and did another event in Philly. But the books are unsellable in little old Williamsport Pa, full of her friends and family…
An odd business all the way around. It actually doesn’t sound to me like the kind of book where you could expect a big sale besides friends and family—but maybe I’m wrong if it already had two successful events, and what’s wrong with selling to friends and family and maybe bringing customers for other books into the store? And surely he knew what kind of book it was when he agreed last year? The tea shop should sell a lot of tea out of the event, anyhow, besides what I presume is a share of income from book sales.
Correction. The guy knew since June of this year, not since last year.
Working on keeping my sanity as I sell my place in Florida & look for a place in Lexington, KY.
Sending you real estate good vibes. If there are such a thing.
Thank you. I will need them.
I had a productive day yesterday. I emptied and cleaned the litter box before refilling (not a favorite task). I also made a pasta/asparagus salad for our yearly picnic meeting at the Master Gardener meeting. And…I am giving a presentation (a make and take)at the September meeting of the MG’s on how to make lip balm so yesterday I went to the library and worked on my notes. I finished it and printed out the handout so the MG make copies to handout to the MG volunteers. Now I h.av e to figure out how long it will take to talk, and have the participants actually make the lip balm. It’s only supposed to be about half an hour in length.
A third and final coat of paint on the fence. A prep under coat on short length of fence and two coats of paint. The wood is smoother. Hoping and praying the weather cooperates. Going through stacks of old magazines before recycling. I kept the house plans book. I have a dream.
I’m also working on two books, although not with the same person.
And then I have dry, non-fiction, informative writing work that…pays, and is useful information, but the cat and dog are more fun than writing that so – oooh, look, the cat just…
I’m working on The Everyday Witch’s Book of Deities, which is due in November, a month which is suddenly much closer than it was a day or two ago. (Seriously, where did summer go?)
Just got off the phone dealing with a banking issue for the shop I stopped managing two years ago. Apparently, they never took my name off the credit card, and the person who is supposed to be handling the bills was late this month. Luckily, the friend I started and ran the store with, who is still running it now that I’m gone, is having lunch with me today and we can walk down the street to the bank and get it straightened out. But it was weird, like having a flashback to being in charge, and I have very mixed feelings.
I’m also trying to retrain a cat who started pooping on the kitchen counters after being bullied by one of the other cats. On that, my feelings are completely straightforward…
Good luck with the banking issue! It’s amazing to me as a teller how some people run their businesses. You definitely want your name taken off. It was also weird for me, after working at our library for 5 years it was very odd to me to walk back in as just a customer and not have access to any of the private areas anymore. I can’t imagine what it is like for you after so many years.
Well after I retired, I got in the mail a new government credit card for use in official travel. I had never even activated the previous card, since retirement was coming up and I had no travel planned. Before retirement I had been told not to worry about the card account. Anyway, I called them, destroyed the card, and that ended the matter. But that was the Feds (and/or their credit card contractor), not who you think of as some people.
Good luck with the cat and the bank. Both are messy things to fix.
The bank was easy (they love us, and missed me, which was sweet). The cat is definitely more complicated, but I’m finding some ways around the issue which will hopefully eventually resolve it.
Today I am finally going to work on the many many many photos I took on my recent birding trip to Arizona. It will take forever cause Real World stuff will intervene but it will be good to get started!
Besides another therapy session, the main things on my agenda today are chores, paperwork, and reviews for tomorrow’s GBTh.
Also, my refrigerator light bulb burned out last night. So I’ve at some point soon got to a) find the model number of the fridge so I can b) order a replacement and c) figure out exactly where the light compartment is (built flush into the ceiling of the fridge section, I think) and how to get into it. Hopefully I can find directions online once I have the model number. This is obviously going to take days, so I stationed a flashlight near the fridge.
I could also talk about the stuff from yesterday’s Amazon order, but I don’t think I have time now. Another day.
Patrick, OMG! I just went through that with a freezer light bulb. The appliance company wanted $60 for a replacement bulb and shipping. That’s ridiculous. I found two that would work on Amazon, and chose the one with the best reviews. The Watts Up place, here, told me it should have lasted longer, since it only burned for a few minutes now and then, when the freezer was opened. You’ll also need the model number of the bulb, so don’t throw it away.
I am working very very slowly. Caught some horrible bug/virus last week which involved headaches and weird muscle aches and fatigue. I was off work for a few days last week and am back now, with zero inclination to do anything. Haven’t been writing either.
My plan is to take it easy and try and recover properly, especially as this is a quiet work time. On the plus side I’m getting a lot of reading done…
I hope you feel better and more energized soon.
That sounds very much like Covid…
Covid was my first thought, but my second was that surely Frozen had already home-tested for that. Anyhow, Covid’s symptoms are all over the place, and so are those of umpteen other viruses and several bacteria.
There are so many things going around right now, including whooping cough – in adults!
Thanks everyone, not Covid, but some other weird thing but I’m on the mend, finally.
Friends are coming from Boston area on their annual visit. I am fussing with ideas for dinner, which I love to do, and cleaning, not so much.
Also signed on for a week of writing camp, so spending some time daily with prompts.
All good.
Getting packed to take Kid 1 to her transfer orientation—leaving today, coming back Friday. Kid 2 will be in charge of the house and the dog while we’re gone… we’ll see how that goes! I had to get up every few hours last night to get a new ice pack for the very itchy site of my latest allergy shot, so I’m not feeling very perky today. Hope I don’t forget anything crucial as we load the car…
Oh dear. I was thinking of trying allergy shots, since my allergies are getting worse every year. Maybe not…
They can work. Had over 30 years of them. I wasn’t sure but new insurance, new Allergist took me off of them. A few months later sneezed and coughed so much, threw up in his trashcan. New allergist put me back on them. I’m now on Fescenra. Insurance is covering, but the price tag is A little under $ 5700 A dose.
I had to look that up, but I don’t have asthma, so I’ve never heard of it.
I’ve been on allergy shots since 1959. In the early years our allergist would try to cut them back for my mother and me, from once a week to every other week and theoretically once a month. Every time we did every other week for three times our allergies would get dramatically worse. He quit trying that.
I am only working on one book. I have two other things (a novelette and a novella) written, polished, and in shape to submit, but I’m not going to mess with them until after I get This Book Written. Yesterday I finished Chapter 8, up to 24500 words of a 90K target.
In response to an alert yesterday from my employer about a massive data breach, I froze my credit records with all three monitoring companies. Argh.
I’ve continued grooming the yard, which is not all that arduous during the summer because the only things really growing are the bougainvillea and wisteria, but the timing of it is important: I tolerate heat poorly and sun not at all, so I have to go out either early in the morning, or late in the afternoon.
Oh! And I did some actual housework! This is worth mentioning because it usually only happens when we have visitors coming. Heh. Alert the media: The Swiffer Was Deployed.
Good luck with the book!
Ugh. I’m going through the card-freezing/etc. stuff too. Hack of a company I didn’t even directly interact with and had never even heard of.
Apparently pretty much everyone in the US got hit by the latest hack, which was to some kind of company that checks credit ratings. SS numbers, everything. I’ve read that everyone should freeze their cards. of course, I tried to do it at Experian, and their “one time code” showed up reading those actual words instead of numbers, and didn’t work. SIGH
If you did the freezing by phone, try the website myexperian dot com. I had better luck with that than phone. Ditto for TransUnion.
OTOH, the freecreditreport dot com site was a mess. Only got one of the three reports. Actually, the site was okay, but once they sent me to the companies’ sites, they wouldn’t work.
I think in my case, the hack was by way of Change Health, which (according to a piece on All Things Considered) is the intermediary site that connects one’s pharmacy to one’s insurer when a scrip is filled, to confirm coverage. Really sucks that entities you don’t even know exist and can’t opt out of (because you don’t trust their security) have access to such critical info.
Also really annoys me that there doesn’t seem to be a way for the IRS to get ahead of the problem, and all you can do is file your taxes early and hope to beat the scammer to any refund. Although, if a scammer tries to steal my refund, they’re in for a big surprise, since I tend to owe money.
I thought I was working on a slow recovery from COVID. But my son just tested positive for mono so now I am working on getting us mono tests.
The biggest thing I worked on was providing thoughtful analysis of the DNC to the few who would listen. And sharing the great jokes. I was really happy to see how well it was run and how quickly they made course corrections on timing, so that they got Harris on stage at 10:31, perfect prime time. I’m a little appalled that I am so amused that two ex presidents made a dick joke about a third ex president —my standards for political courtesy have clearly degraded. (For those who didn’t follow, both Obama and B Clinton made a well deserved joke about Trump’s obsession with rally crowd size but their hand gestures gave it a second meaning.)
DD is now back at grad school and I’m helping him buy the things he needs to live solo now that he is no longer sharing a three bedroom apartment and has to replace all the things they shared. The new studio is a university dorm with an extra long full size bed. Extra long twin sheets and full sheets are pretty standard. Extra long full…not so much.
Also, the day job, cooking squash blossoms, and helping DD buy a house.
Getting ready for Dragon Con–hooray! Setting up a new printer. Ugh. But that too will pass. 😀
Attend with precautions, please. A number of authors and artists I follow came home from GenCon with covid.
My illustrator went to that. She and her husband were somehow lucky enough to come home without it, although almost everyone they knew got it there. Then a week later, she got it at a different gathering.
Thanks, Gary. Just got through the ‘rona myself. My husband brought it home from Otakon, and despite masking and isolating, promptly gave it to me. Fortunately, this one was relatively mild, and I’ve been officially negative since Sunday. I could still come down with some other con crud, but the only good thing about suffering COVID *before* a major con is that you have immunity for a couple of months afterwards. I’ll still mask. Too many other cruds around. But it does take the edge off COVID fears for 12 weeks or so.
I’m still working on catching up. Technically, I’ve been home and “catching up” for almost a full week, but during much of that time, I’ve secretly been hard at work on napping.
Besides that, I have a long backlog of half-finished projects that I’d really like to clear up. I’m thinking that making some lists might help. To be honest, what I really need is one large project that I can procrastinate on, since avoiding one big thing tends to be the perfect system for getting all the other, smaller tasks done. Hmm.
I have been known to use that strategy quite effectively also, Lynn I continue to be fascinated about how my brain works to ‘protect’ me from stress or discomfort.
Work. I am working on work. The drugstore has been insane. I worked Friday and Saturday and I work every day this week except Saturday. The locum pharmacist we have this week is a total jerk, one of my coworkers has Covid, the pharmacy tech who is out on stress leave might not be coming back but hasn’t decided yet so everyone’s lives are on hold until she decides because of the staffing upheaval it’s going to cause either way, and the party-girl coworker has taken off more days than she’s worked so she’s probably going to get fired.
My boss has gone completely cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs and thinks her vacation fling is a real relationship and is a) thinking of getting his name tattooed on her and b) going back next week to see him. Apparently she bought him a phone too, maybe more than one.
Apparently her then 15-year-old daughter had sex with some boy (man? Who knows how old he is) she also met on vacation and my boss thinks this is the best thing ever. If her ex tries to bring up how this all might not be the best thing for their kid, he’s the controlling asshat. Boss is badmouthing Ex to anyone who will listen (aka customers).
Also, three of us spent half an hour yesterday following a shoplifter around the store. One of us doesn’t even work there anymore!
I need Ferdinanda for emotional support. And also to spit on the drama lamas.
You’re not making any of that up? You have some very weird colleagues.
Oh, I wish I was making it up. It’s much more entertaining to read about than work with.
Probably not now, but at some point in the future when O.W. Cherry has both more time and more distance on it all. In fiction, she probably couldn’t kill off more than three of them in one story, so the survivors would have to be treated as comedy relief.
Meant as a reply to aunt snacks response.
I’d suggest writing a story about it, but where would you find the time?
Wow, that is pretty crazy. I am not great at math, but I think that there would have to be at least one case of statutory rape in the love triangle…
You know your work is great inspiration for a soap, maybe you should take up scriptwriting. So much crazy, someone’s brain has obviously gone out for lunch…
Whoa. Crazy crazy crazy!
I’ve managed to get the vital gardening done despite my bad back – sowing winter salad stuff & carrots, harvesting my maincrop potatoes and taking cuttings of borderline hardy plants. Also watering the greenhouse & harvesting tomatoes & sweet peas every other day.
I was persuaded to do a short interview on the local radio station yesterday, so finally had my five minutes of fame, except I don’t think anyone was listening. It involved explaining the rights of way research project and putting out for more researchers. I don’t think I did too badly for my first time on air, but I didn’t enjoy the rest of the day spent thinking of what I should have said instead.
And I’ve been trying to support my friend who was due to move this week – after a year spent buying it – into a bungalow round the corner, but the vendor pulled out last Friday, leaving her with big bills and no home, since her lease was already up on the place she was renting. She came over this afternoon and we went to view another house. We both liked it, and she’s made an offer, but had to be a little short of the asking price. Fingers crossed.
Oh, and I’ve started a photography project, ‘doorstep details’, where I’m spending five or ten minutes photographing one detail in my little garden and posting one of the pictures to Instagram. I haven’t processed today’s yet (I’m liable to save them up and post a few days’ worth at a time), but here’s yesterday’s – it had rained overnight: https://www.instagram.com/p/C-4r5OOMfPV/
Your Doorstep Details project is a great idea! Beautiful picture!
Thank you!
Your pictures are really lovely 😍
Thank you. I’m a bit worried posting one a day will be too much, but the ten minutes connecting with a subject is good.
Too much? Oh, too much for you. Not for the viewer!
No: too much for my followers. I’m enjoying it – though if I make it to winter, it’ll be a lot more challenging.
Good news update: my friend had to go up a little, but her offer’s been accepted as has the vendors’ offer on the house they want. Since that’s vacant, there’s no reason on the face of it why the sales shouldn’t go through swiftly. My fingers are crossed (my friend’s an optimist, so she’s sure it’ll happen).
Sending real estate vibes!
Hooray!
I think the Doorstep Details series is a wonderful idea and the picture you shared today has already improved my day. Thank you.
Fingers crossed!
It’s amazing how little gardening can be done without bending over. (My back is fine; my leg, not so much.)
Working on keeping an even emotional keel. Our house went on the market last week, seven showings, fairly good feedback, but no offers yet. Argh.
Finally dove (literally) into my guest walk-in closet which I commandeered and used as a storage and crap-company’s coming-must-get-clean-in-15-minutes repository and organized it. Amazing how much stuff one can accumullate! 😱
BTW, will Rocky Start be available in audiobook? I enjoy listening to them while I organize!
Yes, but not until all three are done. So it’s going to be awhile. Then we have to see if Brilliance wants them.
I LOVED the Liz Danger series! And I replay the Agnes and Wild Ride one quite a number of times! No way Brilliance will not be wanting them!
I’m also patiently yet at the same time eagerly waiting for Alice and Carter’s story – hint hint. Please. 🫶🏻🙏🏻😚
Same as last week? Rehearsals every night. Working on yarn.
I’m taking a “Train the Trainer” class at work this week, so mostly that.
I chopped some more limbs off the evergreens that are dying, limb by limb, and a few lilac branches, too. I bathed my Pomeranian in the kitchen sink, which has a spray hose, and it was much faster and easier than using the tub and big gulp cup. It was also easier on my back.
I called the Cardiologist’s office again, and he was back in town, so his nurse offered a different BP med. This one is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). I have taken one pill, and so far do not have any of the nasty side effects. A friend said she thought this office was a bit disorganized. I agree.
We’ve had cool mornings, and not bad evenings, which has been wonderful, but is due to end. I plan to mow the lawn tomorrow, before the heat descends.
I’ve been working on getting some things done before this year is completely over. Managed to take care of a financial task (not difficult, just time consuming) and finally found a landscaper who replaced a small retaining wall separating my property from the neighbor. It seemed like such a small task (it’s a small wall) that I kept meaning to do it myself, but finally decided that the fact that I “could” do it didn’t mean that I “had” to do it. New wall looks great and neighbor volunteered to share the cost (though I hadn’t asked).
Currently working on culling out my library (a little bit) so there is room to find things. So far the books that have gone into the library donation box are those titles that I kept meaning to read, but hadn’t gotten around to in more than a decade. Some I didn’t even remember I had, so letting go of them was no problem.
I’m working on getting my work done enough that I can go back to Tai Chi. I want to start a dance class that a fave teacher is hosting in a new time slot that I could just make.
Working on class resources. I have children who can’t open an exercise book correctly. Need to go back to K and 1 level work for them.
I’m working on my work paperwork. Backlog because of being ill and then recovering while overwhelmed with the disruption.
This past week – all of August, really – the BornAgainIndoorFarmer personality has controlled most of my actions. I did a complete reorganization of the “farm,” changing which shelving unit the various hydroponic units occupied to better use the horizontal space. Since this all came about when I moved the units from atop bookshelves to those shelving units, I did myself out of the best feature of top-of-the-bookshelf gardening, which was No Bending.
Anyone with tomato plants knows the need to support them somehow. At one time or another, I’ve used some variant of Tinker Toys to build trellises, but I was never satisfied with them. Now, with all the units on wire shelving, I’m attaching chain to the top shelf and dangling it down, then feeding dowels through the links to build those trellises. “If it’s stupid but it works, it’s not stupid.”
Other than that, I’ve been titivating. (Does that sound dirty? It’s the opposite, trust me.) My laundry is caught up and put away, my trash and recycling went out, the detritus of the farm has been swept up or vacuumed, everything but dishes. Also reading or listening or watching, but that’s a tale for tomorrow.
I remember that verb from Patrick O’Brian. Do navies still use it?
Yes. They did when I was on active duty. I once wrote a musical for Halfway Night called “Clean Up Ship.” Technically, I filked. One of the songs was to the tune of the McDonalds commercial of that time. Another was to “Sounds of Silence.” (Mung in Bilges). Toss in a little Three Dog Night and sing “Titivate! Titivate! Clean to the music!”
But it’s standard English, not navy slang – at least over here.
It’s not marked British or naval in online dictionaries or my old Websters New World, but the only place I recall ever seeing it was O’Brian, and now from Gary.
Add my Alabama grandmother and her sisters.
I got myself onto a schedule so I can manage the promotional activities for my book release: all the social media posts, guest blog posts, pitching to Bookstagram reviewers. I’m writing a short mystery story that sits between the two novels. I’m working on a launching a new Substack newsletter. I’m reading a book club book and Rocky Start. I’m on a diet. And I’m incorporating daily exercise into my schedule for the first time in months. At least at the end of the day I know I’ve accomplished something. Checking off list items like mad is kind of rewarding.
Trying to get a draft done by the end of September. Prognosis shaky at best.
And NOT working on the quilt blocks I need to make up for my quilt group, but hope to be having some fun there tomorrow.
I’ve been doing work that feels like play! Finally got all my deadline stuff done and out the door (copy edits and niece’s graduation quilt and something related to the Romancing the Vote auction), only to learn that I need to make another deadline quilt (niece is getting married), but fortunately it’s more than a year away, so I can ignore it until January or so.
Mostly really enjoying the story I’m working on (second draft), which is so much fun to write that I really resent having to stop to do other stuff (like, yanno, eat and sleep and medical appointments). Fun, fun, fun.
BFF is so n town for a few days and we’ve been playing tourist around town. Today we went to the Museum of Nature – cool, wet day and half the day camps in the city were also there. Lots of kids having a good time looking at dinos, wolves, etc. We enjoyed ourselves too.
I finished my first slow sewing project and am onto #2. It’s fabric piecing but random placement. The pieces are hand sewn and decorated with embroidery stitching. It’s quite relaxing and my stitching improved over the course of the project.

Alas, your IG account seems to be private, so the link doesn’t work.
For the last few days I’ve been mostly working on getting over a cold. It’s book week in Australia, and I spent last week visiting Sydney schools (with lots of sneezing kids), and was supposed to do the same in Melbourne this week. Cue a sore throat which threatened to turn into a lost voice. I managed to do Monday’s school – all three sessions – then collapsed in a heap and had to cancel Tues and Wed. But this morning I at last felt human enough to get back into it, which was such a relief. So many sick kids around at the moment – it’s pretty hard to get through a program like this unscathed.
If you’re feeling better and have any spare time, I recommend the Pharaohs exhibit at the NGV – fascinating!
