This week at HWSWA we talked about Bob’s cast of characters in Shane and the Red Wedding. One of the hardest things to do in fiction is to corral your cast so that they and their actions make sense on both the surface level and the deeper, unstated, thematic level. So I asked a lot of questions and tried not to make too many suggestions (HA!) because it’s Bob’s book, not mine. Fortunately, he’s good at ignoring me.

Huh. South African mercenaries are good at what they do. Sigh.
It’s cool seeing a plot get nutted out.
What’s not cool is 2020, where conversation sign off is a very reasonable ‘stay safe’.
And every work email has to start out with “I hope that you are doing well” and you desperately want to say “I’m not sick, but I’m not WELL,” but can’t, because it’s work?
I have to say, I’d be interested solely because of Shane, Carpenter, and Lisa Livia – but the Jenny Steering Points in this really make me want to read it.
