New Show. Huh.

No, I’m not done with Sense8, that show has made me think more about story than anything I’ve watched since Life On Mars. But while I’m thinking about romance writing and ensemble writing, there’s this sizzle reel for a new show: Maggie Lawson: She was great on Psych. Jane Lynch: She’s great in everything. Premise: Way too cute. Still, Jane Lynch . . . “It’s an observation, not a judgment.” I’m using that one. And the bit with the brother flirting against his will was funny. But it feels very one note, even Lynch. I dunno. What do we think? ETA: In OMG news for fans of Elementary, Sherlock’s father is finally going to show up on screen. Played by John Noble. Jonny Lee Miller and John Noble with father/son issues. Must go stock up on popcorn.

  1. I love Maggie Lawson and she seems perfect for this role as done Lynch for her role, but I can’t say that I’ll watch it. Big maybe but probably a Netflix binge when I’m sick.

    1. It depends on if they go conventional with the plots or if they go bizarre. Since it’s Lynch, there’s a change they’ll go bizarre and that would be great with Lawson to ground things as Everywoman. But if it’s standard sitcom, nope.

  2. It looks super cute. I had the same one note concerns though. The Elementary news made me squeal. I can’t wait!

  3. I think the trailers look promising, but I read Matt Rousch, a TV critic I agree with much of the time. (He loves Buffy.) He goes to all those advance TV screening things and gets all the stuff, and he says Jane Lynch is the best thing about this show, but that isn’t enough. I’ll probably try it anyway, though.

    1. Oh, that’s what I was afraid of.
Most of that seemed so conventional with just Lynch being exciting, and even she seemed to be working too hard at it. Rats.

  4. I’ll give it a shot for Jane Lynch, depending on when it’s on. Interesting news about Elementary – I look forward to seeing how that works out.

  5. I knew Sherlock’s father was coming, but I didn’t know he was John Noble. Now I’m even more excited. Love him. And can’t wait to see Johnny Lee Miller with him. And of course, I really want to see Watson meet him…Really must fix my antenna situation. Stupid mountains.

  6. Well the clip is a one-joke wonder, though Jane Lynch is definitely entertaining. The thing is, I don’t see Dr. Allison is in crying need of her guardian angel, so the premise seems weak. Near the end of the clip I realized Amy reminded me a little of Earl, the angel from Saving Grace. Now there was a character in need of a guardian angel.
