Cherry Saturday: Mar. 1, 2014

Today is National Pig Day. Show some respect and lay off the bacon for twenty-four hours, okay?

  1. You know what one of my new favorite pizza toppings is? Lightlife’s Fakin’ Bacon. It’s tempeh bacon (what we previously referred to as “tempacon”), which I’ve hated every time I’ve made at home, but when it’s on a pizza or in vegan carbonara, I’m the happiest girl in the world. IDGI.

    1. I am assuming this is a porkless product. I’m always on the lookout for those as I’m allergic to pork, which makes me sad. (I miss ribs, ham, bacon, pepperoni …)

      1. GMTA. Celebrate the piggy sacrifices by not leaving one shred of pork to go in the garbage?

Very tangential, but Mardi Gras is this Tuesday . . . .

  2. I am going to show my respect by making a 6-hour pork shoulder roast. (I already planned it and have nothing else in line).

  3. We have a Pig Day at the farmer’s market here, but I have yet to actually bother to go to it. I think it is a kid thing, though.

  4. Piglets are cute. Full-grown pigs scare the hell out of me: those things can be mean and dangerous! And then there are feral hogs (gotta love the South) and wild boar and …. I’m afraid I fear pigs. Which may be a form of respect. 🙂

  5. I’ve been playing Hay Day on the tablet my husband got for me, and I love the way the pigs wag their tails. It’s silly, but it makes me smile, so I don’t care that it’s silly.
