I’m crocheting like a madwoman while it snows (AGAIN) outside.  Also cleaning, baking, studying Hell, and writing a novel.

What are you making?  (Doing, thinking about doing, deciding not to do . . .)

  1. I’m still working on the quilt for my friends. Pictures will need to wait another week. Still have yet to sign up for Instagram & it’s not done. 😞 Because of the quilt, I’ll be taking Friday as a vacation day. No way to finish on time otherwise.

  2. I’m having a deliberately unproductive week. Decided I needed to rest my brain and try and destress. This afternoon I’m going to try and get my head straight via meditation, journalling, and maybe some tarot. I might even do some affirmations.

I’m waiting to hear how the vendor’s solicitor has reacted to all the corrections and queries mine sent to her ten days ago.

  3. Cleaning (always, what a drag) and baking chocolate chip cookies for my esl students. We should be having an end of semester party if this snow day doesn’t mess us up.

I’d say I’m entertaining my progeny since they’re off school, but truthfully after a short snowball fight, they’re entertaining themselves.

  4. Laundry, dishes, a power point for a workshop about support networks that I’m doing next month, bill paying, and tearing up carpet. And, if I have time before I crash out, updating my resume and starting a cover letter.

And tidying. And pulling down wallpaper.

…I’m in bed right now though. 😁

  5. I had to completely tear out the six-inch start I had knitted on Husband’s afghan because I lost the pattern–dunno how, but it was pretty tragic looking. However, it turned out okay because I was using too big needles anyway and this gave me an excuse to start again with smaller needles that is making a tighter-weave blanket. Otherwise, working, working on the book for Tule and spending the rest of the week up at Son’s house taking care of Grandboy and the Granddog while Son and DIL head to a destination wedding in Mexico. Fun!

  6. What’s it called, when you procrastinate on a big thing and get a bunch of little things done in the interim? I’ve been doing that thing. And I have a long list of fiddly bits I’ve checked off, (can I just how much I love the tick boxes on Google Keep? I really really love checking off a thing on a list and having it Go Away!) and I still haven’t started thinking about the one big looming thing. So.

    1. Ooooh, I’ve got to try Google Keep. That looks great for my new commitment to productivity after spending too long grieving over quitting a volunteer position I had. I’m determined to settle down, get some focus and productivity going.

    2. My friends call it “productive procrastination.” Like how I’m on Spring Break with lots of grading to do but I’m reading blog comments on my phone next to my sleeping toddler, and then I’m going to go clean the kitchen again, and then I’m going to tidy the family room, and then…

I mean grades aren’t even due till April 2nd so…

      😭

  7. Still in crochet baby blanket mode – two done and one 1/3 done. Partly because I bought new yarn and wanted to see how it would look, and how the next one would look, etc. Have a couple of hour freelance project that I should do instead tonight.

  8. I’ve been mostly working on my part-time job more than full-time (unpaid), to finish a web site that everyone was frantic to have completed ASAP.

And I’ve been very tired and also frustrated at the lack of feedback from staff for content and review. “ASAP” requires more than a Team of One, folks.

I’ve been trying to do yoga and meditation more regularly, to combat the job stresses, and to continue to experiment with learning to paint and to use resin, because making things makes me happier than not making things.

As an experiment, I took an IKEA Rast chest of drawers and did a layered acrylic, sand, and resin painting on the top, aiming for an aerial view of the ocean hitting a beach.

I was so, so, so happy with how it turned out. Most of my paintings so far haven’t turned out to my liking, so yay!

I posted it on Instagram with #WorkingWednesdayPix. I think. I’m entirely new at Instagram. The link below is to the post, but I’m not sure how to hyperlink it here on the blog. Maybe that’ll happen automatically when I post this comment.

    1. WOW that is gorgeous! Instagram doesn’t seem to want to let me like or comment or anything lately so I hope you see this here.

  9. So the snow started about twelve hours after they said it would, which means right now it’s coming down like gangbusters, but I got the dogs out for their morning gig without trouble. Well, Milton and Mona went without trouble although the wet snow bothered them. Dry snow is lovely stuff; this is half slush as it comes down, and that stuff is heavy. I tried to take pictures but that didn’t work so I came in and got a picture of an afghan motif I did, trying to decide if I want to do the whole afghan. It’s a really interesting pattern–two different hexagons and then a stripped corner, but it’s fiddly as all hell which means I’ll probably have to crochet off a chart for all the 3D pieces. Having finished one, I think it’s worth it, but we’ll see.

    1. I LOVE the colors! And the yarn looks sooo soft and smooth.

I’m very tactile about yarn that I pick for knitting… even more than colors, I go for how it feels.

  10. Today I have an interview for a possible new job, so that is a thing I’m doing.

At home some sparrows are building a nest on top of the security light at the front corner of the house. I would rather they were building it on one of my arbors, but those aren’t really habitable yet (i.e. no plants up at nest level, too exposed) so I can’t really blame them. 🙂

  11. I’m going to share the crib-sized quilt I finished last week but didn’t photograph in time for #WWPix. I was pleased to find that the camera hadn’t lost the final items I did for #dailyfeb2018, so I may post those too! This week, I started out doing a good bit of quilt piecing, but no pix yet. Looks like I’ll be on a one-week delay for pictures.

    1. I have the same problem, which is not a problem. We have no deadlines here. Even “Wednesday” is just a suggestion.

  12. I need to work on writing–I’m performing at a storytelling event Saturday and need to get some practice details done since it’s been a while since I did this.

I am also trying to figure out how to make some kind of wall decoration with 100+ yarn flowers I made. Started crocheting them together last night, not sure if I am in love with that or not but I’m not coming up with any better ways to put them together that I love more either.

    1. She’s both stunning and so sweet-looking. Those eyes! That elegant nose! That fur!

I assume you named her after Veronica Lake?

  13. My plan was to go to the craft store and buy some spacers for jewelry projects. The elastic on some of my bead bracelets is so stretched out that they have either come apart or I have lost them. One was a jade beaded bracelet that I know I took off and put some where either in a coat or cardigan pocket or pocket book while out. I searched all pockets and came up with about $10 in change. I’m planning to switch out the elastic to wire and toggle. That’s the good news. It has been so long since I have done jewelry making I didn’t notice that they don’t have any spacers any more but I’ll think of something else to use. In the meantime I can’t go into Michaels without getting sidetracked. This time it was those already made floral projects. I decided to make my own. In theory it was a good idea, monetarily not so much.

  14. So, I posted my first ever painting (done at a painting party hosted by the women’s group at my church) on Instagram, but I forgot to hashtag it and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to pull in the URL.

In other news, I learned today that the second book in my Touched by a Demon series, The Demon’s in the Details, is a finalist for the Golden Heart award.

    1. I’ve sort of lost track of the romance-writing community, but I love that now I know someone in the running for the GH! I miss that connection. Good luck.

  15. I am still wrestling with social media and self-promotion. I signed up for Tumblr, which I don’t understand yet, and posted some more pieces to Etsy. Bleh. It is slow going, and probably my least favorite part of making things.

I made a pair of earrings this morning that I am happy with, but didn’t snap a photo of. So I give you a picture of newly listed earrings instead.

  16. I managed to put my lazy butt on the training bike this morning. And I didn’t break down today though I thought I would. Aaand I DID go to the creativity/crafting club, even though I didn’t do anything more advanced than drink tea. At least I went there instead of hiding at home under a pillow. Yay! Also, one of the ladies brought her Jack Russel terrier Max along and he kept jumping onto my lap and lick my face or curl up on my lap and just cuddle for a while, which felt incredibly good. I guess he knew I needed it.

Tomorrow I will try(!) to do something creative. It’s been a good long while since I last let my hands create something, I guess it’s about time.

  17. This year’s spring break plans for me include toddler-watching while gestating baby #2, which means mostly I’ve made messes today (with help, of course). The best one was making washable finger paint (1 part corn starch, 2 parts dish soap, food coloring) and painting the bathtub (and my hand, which is still stained blue after this happened: https://www.instagram.com/p/BgmJXlBgGuu/

I also made some delicious (but not at all photogenic) chicken and noodles, since the temperate dropped 20* in the last two days and we went from picnic mode back to snow. ❄ Ah well… Gives me more time to procrastinate on Spring Cleaning, right??

  18. Today I made buttermilk waffles with a side of bacon for breakfast since it is our 48th anniversary. Then we opened gifts. Then I will work on cleaning the yard some more if the rain holds off. A great day so far.

PS. I tell everyone I was an infant bride which is how I have managed to be married so long and still be so young. Of course, that made me an infant college senior too.

    1. It rained. Is that great or what! I did not have to work in the yard after all and spent the day reading. Then went out to a fantastic dinner. Life is good.

  19. My big home project is rearranging the furniture to move the giant entertainment unit out of the living room. Unfortunately modern televisions are even MORE giant than the old entertainment units. The true challenge is finding room for all the necessary stuff stored in the units, and purging the excess. (Former television was not compatible with current cable streaming, and the screen size cuts off all the subtitles. Realized that I bought it when I moved here in 1999 …)

Nothing that I can post on Instagram, but I have been really enjoying playing my guitar. And I have been working on being able to use my ear to add harmony and bass notes to songs that provide only a written melody line. So for me — that’s relaxing and creative!

  20. I have 4 job interviews this week. The first one yesterday didn’t go that well. Today I have two, and the first one went really well. Fingers crossed for the rest! These are all for different departments of the county government. The one today was for substance use assistance. They all help the community and sound very rewarding!

  21. And then I realized that I’d taken some pictures this morning, despite going out without a camera, so have posted a couple on Instagram.

  23. I’ve started knitting again; I’d had to put it off for a couple of months due to stupidity that resulted in a cut extensor tendon. Turns out knitting is far less stressful on the hand than crochet (for me, anyway), and the motion helps get it limber again.
Anyway, it’s a Swan Island pattern, the cable wrap. If I can figure out how to get a photo posted, I will.
I’m mostly working on it during the play I’m running sound for. There aren’t a lot of cues, so I have plenty of time for knitting.

  24. I finished the first of some fabric boxes. I have some fat quarters too lovley to cut up, so they are going to become boxes.
I am taking over the GIS portion at work, and I made some extra fiddley maps today. They looked good and the users really liked them.

  25. I am sooo frustrated. My day job is so stressful that all I seem to get done at home is nap. I go home sit in the chair in front of the fire put the laptop in my lap and fall asleep. Yesterday I tried something different and fell asleep with my head resting on my hand sitting up at the table. I posted a picture of my day job desk on instagram, but it doesn’t even show the projects that haven’t yet made it to my desk.

And if you can believe it they are cutting a position from our office for next year. I’m not signing my contract. I’d rather stay home with my dogs and stress about money than this.

  26. I’m making a fancy fold BD card for my BFF’s daughter and experimenting with water colours to make a set of cards to send another friend for her birthday. Involves playing with paints and water colour pencils which is lots of fun. We still have snow but the sidewalks are clean so I’ve started walking home from work – just over 3 miles, which has significantly helped bring down my stress levels at work. Plus, it’s lovely to be outside after a long, cold winter.

  27. In the midst of rehearsals for Spamalot in May. I’m playing Sir Robin (the not so brave), which is a fun part!
My wife is learning to knit to help out with making the fake chain mail! I think she’s being very brave, learning something new when there’s tight time pressure

  28. I took today as a vacation day so I could finish piecing together a quilt. That’s done & it’s on the frame. After I leave this comment, I’m going to go and quilt the quilt. Then attach the binding. Then pack because I will likely sew down the other half of the binding in the car on the way to my friend’s house who gets to own the quilt. Well, her soon to be born kids. I will post pictures of it and it’s mate after they are given as a gift.
